Sports Allocation
Using P.E. Sport’s Funding at St. John the Baptist C.E.V.A. Primary School
What is the Sports Premium Funding?
The Departments for Education and Health, Culture, Media and Sport are providing primary schools with funding of £150 million per annum for the academic years 2013/14 and 2014/15. This money will go directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. Each school will receive £8,000 plus an extra £5 per pupil each year for the next two years. This money can only be spent on sport, PE provision and related resources, but the finer details will vary within the school.
Possible uses of the funding include:
• Hiring specialist PE teachers or qualified sports coaches to work alongside primary teachers when teaching PE (to ‘upskill’ staff).
• Paying for professional development opportunities in PE/sport (including supply cover).
• Providing a wider variety of sports activities / clubs, or increasing participation in organised competitions.
• Buying a wider range of sports equipment to increase or broaden provision in PE.
At St. John the Baptist, we continue to value the contribution of PE to the health and well-being of our children and aim to provide varied, enjoyable and challenging activities, both within the PE curriculum and as extra-curricular opportunities. We support the view that sporting activity has a positive influence on the concentration, attitude and academic achievement of all children, whatever their level of ability and we believe that the money must be used to improve the sporting experience of each child.
This extra funding will allow our children to participate in more sports competitions / events, enable us to provide training for our staff in an increasing range of sports (sometimes through working alongside specialist sports coaches) and to develop our pupils’ skills in using a wider range of equipment and resources.
